On September 27, 2024, Damascus was devastated by Hurricane Helene. The town was in the path of 22 ft' + floodwaters coming down from the NC mountains, especially along the Virginia Creeper Trail. The flooding would build up on each trestle, then collapse, go downstream and repeat. In total, 18 trestles were destroyed and many trestles damaged. At our property, there was a temporary lake formed until the bridge beside our home gave way, which created a vacuum effect. This resulted in our property being partially washed away and what was left, completely destroyed. We have been working alongside the Town to come up with a solution and try to build something back that would compliment the area... with the Creeper Trail in the front yard...what would be better than a train! We have purchased two cabooses, one will sleep up to 4 people and the other up to 6 people. They will be brought in and ready for a grand opening at the beginning of August. Each will have a deck, fire pit, hot tub, bbq grill, and many other special amenities that we had in the past. The volleyball area will be in between, and a butterfly garden will be a new addition to the property.
You literally can coast into your front yard from the Virginia Creeper Trail as you enter Damascus from White Top.
In the backyard, enjoy the deck that overlooks the River.
