The Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is a 2,190-mile long-distance hiking trail that runs from Georgia to Maine. One of its most famous and beloved sections passes directly through Damascus, Virginia, making the town a major hub for hikers and outdoor recreation.

Damascus is known as “Trail Town USA” because the Appalachian Trail runs along town streets, through parks, and past local businesses before continuing into the mountains. This makes it one of the easiest places along the entire trail for hikers to access food, lodging, and services.

Distance from downtown Damascus to trail access: within walking distance.  IT IS IN THE FRONT YARD OF ALONG FOR THE RIDE CABOOSES.
